SOMETHING SERIOUS: Dancer On Air (poem)

Take a deep breath. It feeds your lungs as the
rainbow begs you to follow its airy trail to the
pot
that waits at its end. The light from the sun
is
dispersed in a haze. Squint as you search
for
the dancer above. Run through the grass. Faster, or you'll miss
her.

Feel the grass as it moistens your sox and tickles your
calves. Stop to smell the flower that bloomed all
alone.
Tear it from the ground and hear the grass rustle in anger. It can't stop you
now.
You won't miss her again. No not
again!

Darkness looms and the air grows thick with uncertainty.
Run through the trees. They part, letting you pass, as if they knew the
rules
to a game you've never played. Leaves rustle to the sound of
your
favorite song. Sounds of the dancer whoosh through air, bringing the forest to
life.

A thunderous roar. The dancer, she fell. You look around, but curtains
of shadow drape the forest. You've lost her
for
now. No trace of the rainbow or the dancer who'd dance just for
you.
